5 Practical Habits To Add To Your Routine

If you’ve been around for a while, you know I’m all about routines, systems & habits. They help me feel organized, minimize anxiety and have been one of the easiest ways to work towards my goals. I’ve been slowly reading Atomic Habits for the last few months and it has helped me create realistic habits that I work into my routine on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Here are a few of the habits I’ve been implementing:

ONE. MAKING MY BED

Starting the day with this simple step jump starts the rest of the day for success. Not only does it give your space a clean & tidy feel, it also increases your discipline. If you can make your bed first thing in the morning whether you feel like it or not, the chances of you being disciplined in more complex areas are much greater.

TWO. DRINK MORE WATER

My water intake has traditionally been terrible. Not because I don’t like water, just because I always forget. We all know the extreme benefits of water so I won’t bore you with those details. To help me remember to get my full hydration on, I keep a water bottle on my desk (in sight…front of mind). I also tell myself I’m not allowed to drink coffee in the morning until I’ve had a glass of water…so that helps too!

THREE. THE TOP THREE

I have freed myself from the pressures of a 20-line to-do list everyday. Let’s be honest, it never really gets done. Before I start the grind, I identify the 3 most important tasks of the day. These are my non-negotiables. If I can get through these, I feel accomplished, productive & more inclined to move on to other tasks on the perpetual list.

FOUR. CREATE THINGS

One of the goals I have in my professional life is to become a better creator. To understand my camera & produce things at a higher caliber today than my work 6 months prior. That’s not going to happen by shooting once a month or waiting until content needs to go out to create. I’ve made a habit of filming my everyday tasks (cooking, making coffee, going out for a walk, etc…) not for the purpose of sharing it but simply to get better. Sometimes it makes the internet…sometimes it doesn’t. But I’m always learning and it is an active way for me to achieve those content creation goals.

FIVE. GO OFFLINE

As an influencer & content creator, I spend most of my hours being connected in some way to the internet. It’s how I connect with you to share my stories and ultimately, make my money. As much as I love what I do and as much as entrepreneurship requires grit…I also need to take breaks. So Sunday’s…I get offline. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve implemented it and I honestly look forward to the time every week. Sometimes I create, sometimes I hang with friends, sometimes I just sit on the couch and do nothing. But the time offline is the mental & creative refresh I need every week.

Give these a try, come up with some of your own & put them into action!
