FOR MY BOSSES IN TRAINING

My dream is to be a full-time entrepreneur. To see my thoughts and ideas manifested into reality. To have more flexibility with my time, that allows me to travel with my husband and raise our future children from home. To have multiple streams of income and create financial freedom for myself and my family. This is my dream, but I am not there yet.

I know that it can be frustrating to see others living out their dream as you’re getting to yours. You may question why it isn’t happening for you; why it’s such a hassle for you to get there; why it’s taking so long. You have to remember, the success stories that you see, the women and men living their dreams, traveling the world, living in financial freedom, it all took years of building and sacrifice to bring them where they are today.

I started my entrepreneur journey by selling on Poshmark. I began in 2017 and have been running my business part-time while also working full-time. Since then, my journey has evolved to incorporate blogging and social media influencing, all while maintaining a full-time job. For me, that often means early mornings, late nights, and jam-packed weekends. Because results take time, I have to continually remind myself to be patient with myself and keep going.

If you’re working towards leaving your “job” to pursue your dream, here are a few things to keep in mind:

PURPOSE AND VISION

Before you think about leaving your full-time job to pursue your dream, it’s essential to know your purpose and have a vision of what you want that to look like. Let’s get this clear, being an entrepreneur is not for everyone, and there is nothing wrong with having a corporate career. Whatever it is, write it down and make it clear. This will be your reference and serve as your reminder as you work towards your goals.

GET STARTED

So you’re clear on your purpose and your vision. Now it’s time to get started. That does not have to mean you leave your full-time job. Start to allocate time before or after work or on the weekends to work towards your dream. The side hustle is a great way to get your feet wet and push you closer towards your goal or help you realize that it’s not what you expected.

DEDICATION AND CONSISTENCY

You’re a part of the side-hustle crew, and it’s everything you imagined and more. Great! This is where the work comes in. Believe it or not, there are thousands of people with the same dream. What separates the ones who are successful from the ones who are not, is dedication and consistency. The more consistent you are, the better your results will be.

INVEST IN YOURSELF

I’ll always be an advocate for investing in yourself and your business. Investing does not have to be in a financial form initially, if you do not have the capabilities to do so. There are countless videos and resources available for free to help you be successful. Read as much as you can, watch youtube videos, listen to podcasts. Anything relating to your field that is out there, seek it out, and slowly begin to implement what you learn.

I hope this was helpful. Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

Jessica
